Since so many of us with IBS can no longer have onion, or if you love onion flavor but don't want to the hassle of sauteing onions ever time you go to cook, here is a great recipe. The reason this works is because the oils do not absorb the component of the onion that messes with an IBS stomach, so you get the flavor and not the pain.
For those of you without IBS, this is a nice way of adding onion flavor without have to always saute an onion, or you go to the pantry and find that you have just run out of onions.
First I poured a full 16 oz. bottle of extra virgin olive oil
Heat it to a medium heat, the extra virgin is a now heat oil and you don't want to burn it.
Once the oil is heated, add 2 medium onions
Saute the onions until they look about the same as the picture below:
Opaque and beginning to brown
(It's about 20 to 30 minutes)
Strain out the onion from the oil allow the oil to cool and pour back into its oil bottle. Make sure to label to your bottle so you know it from the regular Olive Oil.
